We define shallow water as water which extends from the shoreline out to a depth of eight to ten feet. Any water deeper than eight to ten feet is referred to as deep water.
For successful fishing a distinction must be made between shallow water and deep water. Only in doing this can the correct presentation of lures be made.
To begin our fishing we must accept a couple of key fishing facts. These facts will be the basis of our entire fishing philosophy. This is the code of Spoonplugging so to speak.
The deep water is the home of the fish. And, the older a fish gets, and the bigger he gets, the more reluctant he is to leave the deep water. Also, the older the fish get, the tighter they school. This is not good news for us as fishermen, since this puts the fish in any lake in a tiny deep water area. However, were fortunate because periodically the fish move toward the shallows.
